Lake Bled “Slovenian + Austrian Highlights” + Day Trip From Salzburg

The journey takes you south from Salzburg up the Salzach valley surrounded by Austrian alpine scenery then we pass “Burg Werfen” castle, the Werfen village and up on high the World’s largest Ice Cave. We leave the Salzach continuing through the mountains of Carinthia. we will make a stop at the lakeside town Seeboden for a leg stretch and a “cuppa” by lake “Millstättersee”. Then onwards, passing Villach we cross the Austrian border into Slovenia with the Karawanker tunnel then another 30 minutes later we reach Lake Bled.
In the lake is an island with a 15thcentury Gothic pilgrimage church, 99 steps to climb and a bell to ring for good luck. The island can be reached by a traditional wooden boat, a fun and romantic experience in itself. You can find a cozy place for lunch on the Island.
Up on a lakeside rock is the majestic 11thcentury Bled Castle. The lake surrounded by Slovenian alps has a special relaxing atmosphere. After exploring around Lake Bled, as per tour schedule we will make our way back to Salzburg.

Depending on your interests, there are options to consider and discuss with your tour guide.
We could choose to visit the medieval Carinthian city “Villach” to stroll around the old part of the city to get to know the culture and history dating from Roman times, this can be done on our way to Bled or on our return trip.

There is also the possiblity of extending your tour to visit Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia with its attractive city centre. It lies just 55km beyond Lake Bled.
