It is a very famous pilgrimage church in spiritual and artistic respects. It dates from a miracle in 1738 when tears were seen on a wooden figure of the Scourged Saviour. Wies Pilgrimage Church became a masterpiece of arts and the most beautiful Roccoco building in Europe. Thus, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Over the centuries many who prayed in front of the statue claimed to having been cured from their diseases, it is still a magnet for believers from near and far.
Linderhof Palace was King Ludwig’s “Royal Villa”, a complex also inspired by his idol, the French Sun-King Luis XIV. Linderhof Palace is shaped centered on the King’s bed-chamber. It is located amidst impressive baroque gardens with terraces, cascades and fountains. The adjourning landscape garden covers an area of about 125 acres and merges into the adjoining alpine forest. The park itself is opulently decorated with allegoric sculptures of the elements, some parts are closed in the winter
Oberammergau town is famous in three respects: For the “Lüftlmalerei” wall paintings, the wood carvings and the Oberammergau Passion Play. The wall painting is a uniqe style in Upper Bavaria to decorate buildings with traditional Bavarian, fairytale or religious scenes.
Woodcarving in Oberammergau has also a long tradition, ranging from religious subjects to toys, but just to drive through or take a short walk we can really appreciated the beauty. On our way back to Innsbruck we pass through the former Olympic winter sports town Garmisch – Partenkirchen.
