On this Small Group Minivan Tour you will learn about charming Christmas markets of the Austrian Lake District ”Salzkammergut”, one of the most picturesque parts of Austria, with its crystal clear lakes surrounded by mountains, rock faces and the rural beauty of Austria. This was and is the scenes for world famous movies (“The Sound of Music”) and operettas (“The White Horse Inn”). The villages of St.Gilgen, St.Wolfgang, Mondsee and UNESCO village Hallstatt are popular attractions around Salzburg.

Itinerary

Heading east from Salzburg City the first lake we pass is the emerald Fuschlsee and we make our first stop above the Mozart village St. Gilgen by the lake Wolfgangsee. This lake is the centre piece of the tour. At St. Gilgen we visit the Christmas market and then further around the lake to St. Wolfgang village. At St.Wolfgang you can wander the Christmas market stalls lining the streets and visit the pilgrimage church where you can view Michael Pacher’s winged Gothic altar.
Then we drive to Hallstatt, passing Bad Ischl (Kaiserstadt – Imperial Town) and Bad Goisern on a scenic route with great views until we reach the UNESCO village Hallstatt. Here we have time for lunch and leisure.
From Hallstatt we will take a panoramic route via the emerald lake Attersee and then the Mondsee, the largest lakes in the Salzkammergut. In Mondsee village we have some time for visiting St.Michael’s Church, a pilgrimage site that was also the location of the wedding scene in the “The Sound of Music” film.
Then we return to Salzburg and you will be dropped off near Mirabel Gardens.

Important Info

Please be prepared there 30 min. prior to tour start (morning tour at 08:30 and for afternoon tour 13:30) for pick-up. You either can be the 1^st ones to be picked up or within a certain time-frame depending on the pick-up round and traffic.
Additional hours on request, when possible each extra hour cost Euro 90/-.
Some of tours need to cross over the country border, in case of border control we recommend you to carry passport.
Please inform us in case you want to take baby with you, we will try to arrange a suitable baby seat.
